Position Title: Legal Intern
Release Date: June 2020
Start Date: Summer 2021
Location: Los Angeles, CA

The Bail Project seeks current law students to apply for an unpaid legal internship for Summer 2021.

About The Bail Project:

Our Model

The Bail Project is a national nonprofit that combats mass incarceration by paying bail for people in need, enabling them to return home to their families and communities while awaiting court dates. Once a client is released on bail, we provide them court reminders, transportation assistance, and voluntary referrals for support resuming their lives. We call this model Community Release with Support. We seek to secure freedom for an unprecedented number of people—and have already bailed out over 10,000 people—while pursuing advocacy to dismantle racially-biased, wealth-based pretrial detention. Through these efforts, we’re laying a strong foundation for systemic change to make our intervention no longer necessary.  Learn more about our vision for pretrial reform at

Our Team

We’re a community of advocates committed to ending mass incarceration and advancing racial and economic justice. Our organization is comprised of a central support team in Los Angeles, CA, and a network of client advocates or “Bail Disruptors” who work in their local communities to provide bail assistance and advance reform.

Internship Description:

The intern will report to our Legal and Policy Director as well as Staff Attorneys and work closely with other members of our Legal/Policy team.  Our central office is located in Los Angeles, CA but remote internships at a Bail Project site outside of Los Angeles will be considered.

The intern’s primary educational opportunities will include assisting the team in conducting legal support for bail operations in sites and assisting with key policy and advocacy projects to end cash bail.
